Meet Dr. Kimberly Hinman
Choosing an evaluation often comes at a moment when something hasn’t been making sense — school has become harder, attention isn’t improving, social situations feel confusing, or memory is changing. My role is to help families and individuals understand why, not just assign a label.
I am a licensed psychologist specializing in neuropsychological and educational assessment across the lifespan. I work with children, adolescents, and adults to clarify attention differences, learning profiles, developmental concerns, and cognitive changes so that next steps feel clear and realistic.
Families often come in worried they will receive either a vague answer or a long list of diagnoses that doesn’t feel helpful. My approach is to provide a thoughtful explanation that connects the testing results to everyday functioning — how a child learns in the classroom, why certain tasks feel exhausting, or why strategies that work for others haven’t worked here.
Every evaluation at Bloom Testing is completed personally by me. I use structured, research-supported assessment tools along with clinical judgment and careful interviewing so recommendations are practical and individualized, not generic.
Bloom Testing was founded by Dr. Dawn Bloom, whose compassionate and thorough approach continues to shape the practice. I am honored to continue her commitment to careful evaluation and meaningful guidance for families in the Kansas City community.
Training & Background
Dr. Hinman earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the State University of New York at Geneseo. She relocated to the Kansas City area in 2020 and works closely with local physicians, therapists, and schools to support coordinated care.
Her clinical focus includes:
ADHD across the lifespan
learning disabilities (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia)
autism and social communication differences
diagnostic clarification (anxiety, OCD, executive functioning)
adult memory and cognitive evaluations
Philosophy of Care
A good evaluation should feel relieving, not overwhelming.
The goal is not simply to confirm a diagnosis, but to understand patterns — strengths, challenges, and why previous strategies may not have worked. Clear understanding allows families and individuals to make informed decisions about school supports, treatment, and expectations moving forward.
You should leave an evaluation knowing what to do next.
A Little More About Me
Outside of the office, I’m usually chasing after my toddler, enjoying long walks with my greyhound, or working through a growing stack of books I keep meaning to finish. I appreciate how different every person’s brain and personality can be, which is part of what drew me to assessment work in the first place.
I know coming in for testing can feel intimidating — especially for kids — so I aim to create an environment that feels calm, respectful, and comfortable. Most children are surprised to find the appointment feels more like solving puzzles than taking a test.
As a parent myself, I understand how stressful it can feel when something about your child’s learning or behavior doesn’t quite add up. My goal is for families to leave not only with answers, but with relief and a clearer path forward.
